Player history

The Croatian-born American Bernarda Pera, who started playing tennis at five, made her debut on ITF Circuit in 2011 at $10k event in Landisvill. On the WTA Tour, she played her first match at the 2014 US Open, having received a wildcard with Tornado Alicia Black in the doubles tournament.

She made her WTA qualifying debut at 2014 Québec City. In 2015, she won the first titles in her career on ITF Circuit at $10k tournaments in Alkmaar, Breda and Rotterdam. She also fell in qualifying in Québec City and improved her ranking from No.646 to No.361.

In 2017 she rose nearly 200 ranking places in 2017, ending the season at No.127 after posting 54 wins to 20 defeats at all levels. That year Pera made her WTA main draw debut at Guangzhou (l. Cornet) and contested qualifying at US Open, Wuhan, Linz and Moscow. On ITF Circuit, she reached six finals, including three in a row at $25k  tournaments in Stuttgart and Darmstadt-and at $80k event in Olomouc where she beat Krystina Pliskova to claim her first Top 50 win.

She opened the 2018 season becoming the first qualifier to reach the third-round at Australian Open since 1997. In Melbourne, as lucky loser, she scored her career first main draw win over Blinkova and the first Top 10 victory over No.9 Konta.
