The men's results
Carlos Alcaraz beats Grigor Dimitrov in the third round of the Mutua Madrid Open 2023. The Spanish tennis player wins with a score of 6-2, 7-5.
Dimitrov's first service, Alcaraz responds perfectly and forces the next three shots, sending the opponent very far from the court to then score a scary winner. That single point is enough to describe the trend of the first set between the two: dominance of the Spaniard, with a few flashes of the Bulgarian, who is saved in two games of service only thanks to important firsts.
If that's not there, there's no point and the world number two easily wins the first set. The former number three in the world, however, recovers and at the beginning of the second set manages to level up. If the first continues to be solid enough, the level of the game increases, with fewer mistakes by the Bulgarian.
The twist, at this point, is not lacking: in the sixth game, Dimitrov's break which comes after a few too many mistakes by Alcaraz. But as the careers of both players tell, the counter break comes immediately, with parity re-established.
Then, at 5-5, Dimitrov gives in on himself, with an empty pass that gives Alcaraz the chance to serve for the match. The Spaniard made no mistake and closed the third round practice. Carlos Alcaraz's opponent in the round of 16 will be Alexander Zverev, author of a top-level performance against the French Greniere: the 6-1, 6-0 is indicative to understand the condition of the German number one.
Only firsts for him, who collects a percentage of 86% at the end of the match, scoring 22 times out of the 25 serves he has put down. Unplayable for all 57 minutes, with the French unable to find any solution. The two Russians Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov also won: for the number two of Russia an easy victory against Nishioka (6-2, 7-5).
For number three instead a few more difficulties with Roberto Bautista Agust, emerging victorious only in the third set with the result of 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
