The Indian Wells Masters, officially BNP Paribas Open for sponsorship reasons, is a men's and women's tennis tournament, in the 1000 and WTA 1000 categories respectively. Until 2009 it was also known as the Pacific Life Open.

The competition takes place in March on the hard courts of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California. The 2021 edition was exceptionally held in October due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was voted best category tournament from 2014 to 2022.

The men's tournament has gone by various names: American Airlines Tennis Games (1974–1978), Congoleum Classic (1979–1980, 1982–1984), Grand Marnier/ATP Tennis Games (1981), Pilot Pen Classic (1985–1987), Newsweek Champions Cup (1988–1999), Tennis Masters Series Indian Wells (2000–2001) and Pacific Life Open (2002-2008).

The women's tournament has also gone by various denominations: Virginia Slims of Indian Wells (1989–1990), Virginia Slims of Palm Springs (1991), Matrix Essentials Evert Cup (1992–1993), Evert Cup (1994, 1999), State Farm Evert Cup (1995–1998) honoring Chris Evert, Tennis Masters Series (2000–2001), and Pacific Life Open (2002-2008).

The Indian Wells Masters is one of the major combined tennis tournaments, reserved for both men and women, outside the Grand Slam. Like the Grand Slam tournaments and the subsequent tournament in Miami it takes place over two weeks.

The tournament takes place in the town of Indian Wells, California, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, built in 2000 and featuring twenty tennis courts, including the 16,100-seat main court.

The origins of the tournament date back to 1974, when the first edition of the event was held in Tucson, Arizona, which in 1981 was moved to the Mission Hills Country Club in the Coachella Valley, becoming known as the La Quinta tournament.
