2023 In Review: Carlos Alcaraz storms over Daniil Medvedev, wins Indian Wells

Carlos Alcaraz wrote history in Indian Wells, claiming his third Masters 1000 crown at 19! The young Spaniard met an in-form Daniil Medvedev in the title clash and delivered a dominant 6-3, 6-2 triumph in 70 minutes. Medvedev entered the title clash with three consecutive titles and 19 straight wins.

However, he stood powerless against the rival who outplayed him in every segment and earned the title in style. Carlos regained the ATP throne with these 1000 ATP points, becoming world no. 1 for the second time. Alcaraz never lost a set in six encounters, becoming the second teenager after Rafael Nadal with three Masters 1000 trophies on his tally.

Carlos grabbed an early break and gained confidence, controlling the pace of his games and keeping the pressure on the other side. The Spaniard seized all three break chances, seizing his opportunities and lifting the trophy.

The young gun hit a similar number of winners and unforced errors. He forced 20 mistakes from his opponent and reduced Medvedev to only a couple of winners. Carlos had a massive advantage in the shortest and most advanced rallies, taming his strokes nicely and emerging over the top in style.

Alcaraz served well in the opener and clinched a single break that propelled him in front. Carlos held at 30 in the encounter's opening game after Daniil's loose forehand and created two break chances in the next one after the opponent's double fault.

Alcaraz cracked a backhand crosscourt winner on the first, delivering a break and earning an early advantage. A teenager grabbed the third game at love with a service winner, making a flawless start and leading 3-0 after nine minutes.

Medvedev closed the fourth game after deuces, reducing the deficit and getting his name on the scoreboard. Carlos embraced a perfect serve & volley combo in the fifth game, moving 4-1 up with the legendary Rod Laver watching from the stands.

Daniil served to stay in the set at 5-2 and held at 15 with a service winner, prolonging the action. Alcaraz served for the set in game nine and earned two set points with a serve & volley combo. He clinched the first with a booming serve for 6-3 after 35 minutes, gaining a boost ahead of set number two.

After a couple of fine holds, Medvedev lost the ground behind the initial shot again at the beginning of the second set. He hit a double fault in the first game, getting broken at love and finding himself in a challenging position.

Alcaraz held at love in game two with a service winner, cementing the lead and moving closer to the finish line. With everything working his way, Carlos cracked a backhand return and delivered another break in game three for a 3-0 advantage.

The Spaniard forced the rival's mistake in the fourth game, extending his streak and getting closer to the title. Alcaraz grabbed the sixth game with a drop shot winner, forging a 5-1 advantage and forcing Medvedev to serve to stay in the match.

Daniil held at 30 in the seventh game, reducing the deficit and prolonging the action. Carlos wasted a match point in game eight with a loose forehand, creating the second with a crafty volley winner. The Spaniard clinched it with a service winner, celebrating his third Masters 1000 crown at 19.
