2023 In Review: Carlos Alcaraz downs Jannik Sinner in front of Rod Laver

Carlos Alcaraz reached his third Masters 1000 final in Indian Wells. Carlos met Jannik Sinner in the battle of two young guns and scored a 7-6, 6-3 triumph in an hour and 52 minutes in front of legendary Rod Laver. The Spaniard became the third teenager with three Masters 1000 finals, joining Andrei Medvedev and Rafael Nadal.

Alcaraz and Sinner fought for the fifth time on the Tour, and the younger player secured his third victory. Carlos had to work hard in the opener, defending a set point in the 12th game and dictating the pace in the second set to seal the deal and advance into the final.

Alcaraz took only four points more than Sinner, losing serve once from two chances and delivering two breaks that carried him through. The Spaniard hit 26 winners and 32 unforced errors, overpowering his rival's 14-23 ratio.

Sinner closed the encounter's third game at 30, and Alcaraz fired an ace in the next one for 2-2 after 15 minutes. Jannik hit a double fault in the fifth game, facing a break point. He denied it with a powerful serve before netting a backhand on the second, falling 3-2 behind.

The Spaniard cemented the lead with a hold at 15 in game six, and the Italian reduced the deficit with a hold at love a few minutes later. Sinner pushed strong on the return in the eighth game, forcing Alcaraz's mistake and pulling the break back at love for 4-4.

Jannik held at 30 in game nine and stood two points away from the set in the next one before Carlos locked the result at 5-5 for more drama. The Spaniard sprayed a forehand error in the 12th game, offering the Italian a set point.

A teenager denied it with a volley winner at the net and introduced a tie break after the rival's loose forehand. Alcaraz led 3-1 before Sinner erased the deficit and locked the result at 4-4 with a service winner. Carlos grabbed a mini-break in the ninth point and earned two set points after Jannik's wild forehand.

The Spaniard seized the first with a decisive backhand crosscourt winner, wrapping up the opener after 61 minutes. Sinner squandered game points in the second set's second game and lost serve after a forehand error, falling a set and a break behind.

Carlos closed the third game after an incredible point and a perfect lob winner, gaining a boost and moving closer to the finish line. Jannik held at 15 in game four to reduce the deficit before world no. 2 grabbed the next one with a service winner for 4-1.

Sinner struggled behind the initial shot in the sixth game, facing three break points and denying them to stay in touch. The Spaniard opened a 5-2 gap with a service winner in game seven, forcing his rival to serve to stay in the match.

Jannik closed the eighth game with a forehand winner, and Carlos served for the victory at 5-3. Alcaraz cracked a powerful forehand for two match points and sealed the deal with a forehand winner on the second, arranging the title clash against Daniil Medvedev.
