The Ohio State University was founded in 1870 during the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant and is currently the largest university in the United States of America.

In a 2007 report released by the National Science Foundation, Ohio State research expenditures for 2006 were $652 million, ranking it 7th among public universities, also ranking 3rd among all American universities for research sponsored by private industry.

Research expenditures in the state of Ohio were $720 million in 2007. The university has an extensive student life program, with over 1,000 student organizations; intercollegiate sports programs, fraternities and sororities, and three student governments.

Ohio State has over 475,000 living alumni worldwide who include Nobel Prize winners, Pulitzer Prize winners, Olympic Games gold medalists, ambassadors, as well as members of the Forbes 400 list of the richest people in the world.
