Player history

Daniel Evans, born in Birmingham on May 23, 1990, is a British tennis player.

He has won two ATP singles titles, the Murray River Open in 2021 and the Washington Open in 2023, out of four finals played. In 2015 he was part of the British Davis Cup winning team. His best ATP rankings are 21st in singles in August 2023 and 52nd in doubles in April 2021.

Evans grew up in the Hall Green area of Birmingham, his father an electrician, his mother a nurse, and he has two older sisters. He started playing squash at the age of seven with his father in Solihull and discovered tennis by chance at the age of 10 and began training at the Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham. At the age of 13 he moved to Loughborough to live with a host family while he trained at the LTA academy at Loughborough University.

Of his time at Loughborough, he said: 'I was never the best at 14 and 15, in fact, I was probably the worst. bravo and in the end I was the best."

In August 2023, Daniel won 1 of the following 8 matches and returned to light in August by reaching his first final in an ATP 500 at the Washington Open thanks to successes in the quarterfinals over top 10 Frances Tiafoe and in the semifinals over Grigor Dimitrov. He triumphed in the final by defeating Tallon Griekspoor 7-5 6-3, thus winning his second career title on the major circuit and bringing the best ranking to 21st position.
