British tennis player Daniel Evans said he enjoyed having a hit with Andy Murray and added the three-time Grand Slam champion looked well in practice. Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, sustained an abdominal injury during the Stuttgart final versus Matteo Berrettini.
Murray withdrew from last week's ATP event in Queen's but he is hoping to be fully fit for Wimbledon. “I’m rehabbing every day and also avoiding doing anything that is irritable to the area that I injured,” Murray said.
“I’m still getting a lot of good work done but I need to make sure the injury’s fully healed before I start to put it in positions when it is vulnerable currently. I’m doing all of the things I’m sure you’d expect with physios, treatment, rehab and giving myself the best chance to be here on Monday”.
Evans: Murray looked well to me
“I mean I thought he was playing pretty well. I'm not going to comment on if he thinks he's playing well but he played well against me. I'm not sure how the injury is. It's not something we spoke about.
He seemed fine when we practised but, obviously, I can't be sure. It was a good practice, good fun," Evans said, per the Daily Express. Murray has put the big focus on the grass season and his preparation for Wimbledon included reuniting with his ex-coach Ivan Lendl.
All of three Murray's Grand Slam titles came during his first two stints with Lendl. “I think he's happy to have Ivan back and it looks like it's really working. They were smiling, the pair of them," Evans said of Murray's reunion with Lendl.
Murray hasn't had a deep Grand Slam run in five years and it is not a secret that he believes Wimbledon is his best shot at making another great run at a Major. At 2017 Wimbledon, Murray reached the quarterfinal, in which he lost after being severely hampered by a hip injury. Murray hasn't had any Grand Slam quarterfinals since.
