Player history

Danielle Collins enjoyed an illustrious college career at University of Virginia, claiming two NCAA singles titles in three seasons. She became only the seventh woman to win two NCAA singles titles.

 

In 2016 she graduated as the top-ranked collegiate player in the country with a degree in media studies. Consequently, Collins was named Honda Sport Award winner for tennis and candidate for Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. She finished the season strongly, winning $50k ITF title in Stillwater and reaching the final at $50k ITF in Macon

 

Collins ended 2017 at No.167, in what was her first season as a professional. She contested one tour-level main draw last season, in Indian Wells (as a wild card, l. Puig in 1r), and fell in qualifying five times, at Monterrey, Wimbledon, US Open, Tokyo [Japan Open] and Tokyo [PPO]. Throughout the season, she won two singles titles on ITF Circuit, in Bethany Beach and Norman, and closed out the season with a first-round exit at WTA 125K Series event in Honolulu.

 

Collins opened the 2018 season winning the title at WTA 125k series in Newport Beach. She made the quarter-final run at WTA 125k Series event at Indian Wells. In the following WTA tournament in Indian Wells, Collins posted her first tour-level wins during her round-16 run. There, she scored her first Top 50 win over No.15 Keys in the second round. She then became the first qualifier to reach the semifinals in Miami (l. Ostapenko), scoring first Top 10 win over V.Williams en route. She earned USD$327,965 by reaching the last four at Key Biscayne, more than doubling her career earnings.
