The other WTA matches in Montreal
Nothing to do for Coco Gauff, who, once again, surrenders to countrywoman Jessica Pegula, in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Montreal.
Coco was considered among the main favorites for the tournament, thanks to a great form she shown in previous matches. Fatal in the end is the first set where she enters the court very badly, and Pegula starts immediately on 4-0.
From here on she is one point to point but in the end Jessica manages to maintain this advantage and closes the match with the result of 6-2 5-7 7-5. For her intriguing challenge against the world no.1 Iga Swiatek in the semifinals.
We recall after the tournament in Montreal, the WTA Tour will move in Cincinnati for the Western & Southern Open. Aryna Sabalenka had to make up for her match against Liudmila Samsonova, and after a battle of three sets and almost three hours, she was the Russian to take the match home.
Up 4-1 in the decisive third set, the Russian wavered and Sabalenka tried to get back into the match. Liudmila closed with the result of 7-6 4-6 6-3. Samsonova had one more match to play and won with a double 6-4 against Belinda Bencic, thus obtaining the pass to the semifinals.
In the semis she will face Elena Rybakina, one of the main favorites in the tournament. However, many opportunities for Daria Kasatkina who serves several times for the match, she also has match points during the match against the Kazakh, but the opportunity is always missing and indeed, Elena is always able to stay in the match, taking advantage of her opponent's mistakes. A physical and very heartfelt battle, with Elena even closing in 3 hours and 27 minutes of play.
