Maria Sakkari and Danielle Collins were the protagonists of a rather heated argument in the middle of the meeting, at the WTA 1000 in Montreal. The two quarreled following an episode that caused an argument. Down 6-4, 2-1, the Greek missed her first serve and, as the ball returned towards her, she hit it due to the frustration of the moment, with the ball which bounced and ended up in the stands (Sakkari was at a disadvantage and was unable to express herself at her best both in service than in rallies - ed).

The 28-year-old from Athens immediately apologized to the crowd present in that area of the stands, but the American was keen to highlight her behavior to the chair umpire from the baseline: "Did you just see? Did you see what happened?" Sakkari evidently didn't like the American's clarification and responded in kind: "I didn't hit anyone.
It was on the ground" At that point, Collins wanted to close the question with this sentence: "Shut up, shut your mouth." "What is your problem? I didn't hit anyone, I framed the ball and it.." underlined the Greek, before both were interrupted and blocked by the referee, who took control of the situation.
Ben Rothenberg also spoke on the issue: "I agree with Collins here, the officials need to be way stricter on players recklessly smacking the ball and throwing racquets into the stands. Should be no looking the other way when that happens." Here is the video released on Twitter about what happened.
