The following May 27, in the first round of the Roland Garros, she simultaneously achieved her first victory in a slam and against a Top 20 by beating former number one in the ranking Caroline Wozniacki over Philippe Chatrier, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Veronika takes part in the Volvo Car Open Charleston 2021, where she kicks off the gravel season: from the 15th seed, the Russian debuts with a comfortable win over Desirae Krawczyk (6-1 6-2); in the second round, she scores a double 6-4 against the local wild-card Navarro while in the round of 16 she clearly beats Kurumi Nara (6-0 6-3).

In the quarterfinals, she eliminated the 2016 champion Sloane Stephens 6-3 6-4 and, in the semifinals, she ousted the Spanish Badosa with a double 6-3.
