Tennis: World No.16 and the top seed Sara Errani has won the Rio Open WTA Tournament to end her title drought, as she won a tournament after almost 2 years. She defeated Anna Schmiedlova 7-6 (2), 6-1 in the final. Sara Errani had last won a tournament in March 2013 at the Mexico Open in Acapulco and she had lost last three WTA finals that she reached.
This is her seventh title on clay court, and she has only one title on the hard court. On the other hand, 20-year-old Schmiedlova was playing in her first WTA final and was looking for her maiden title. The sixth seed from Slovakia had stunned the No 2 Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the semifinals. Both players are awful on their serves in the first set, as first five games of the match were breaks of serve.
Errani finally held a serve in the sixth game to go 4-2 up but she was broken again in the eighth game as the Slovakian levelled it at 4-4. Both players broke eachother one more time at 5-5 and the set was forced into a tie-break. The former World No.5, Errani won the tie-break 7-2 to go one set up and got a moment booster.
