Tennis - Top seed Sara Errani and sixth seed Anna Schmiedlova will meet in the final of the WTA Rio Open on Sunday after both posted semi-final wins on Saturday. Errani defeated Sweden's Johanna Larsson 7-5, 6-3 to move within one win of her eighth career WTA title and her first in two years.
Schmiedlova scored the big upset of the week with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over second seed Irina-Camelia Begu in a marathon match that lasted nearly two hours and 45 minutes. The Slovak is through to her first career WTA singles final.
The two will be meeting for the first time in their careers. Ysaline Bonaventure and Rebecca Peterson won the doubles title when María Irigoyen and Camelia-Begu retired down 0-3 in the first set due to an injury to Begu, which she suffered during her semi-final loss in the singles earlier.
