Player history

Ekaterina Alexandrova was born in Chelyabinsk on November 15, 1994.

After her junior career, the tennis player achieved her first result on the ITF Tour in 2012, when she reached the semifinals of the Braunschweig tournament, losing to Katharina Lehnert from the Philippines by 6 (3) -7, 6-4, 3-6.

2013 starts well right away with the final at the ITF tournament in Kaarst, where she loses against the German Julia Kimmelmann. The following month, defeating Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland in the final, she won her first ITF title in Kreuzlingen. Later, after losing the Prerov tournament against the Hungarian Reka-Luca Jani in the final, she won the ITF tournaments in Prague and Vendryne, defeating the Slovak Lenka Jurikova and the Czech Katerina Vankova in the final, respectively.

In 2014, after obtaining the title at the Wiesbaden tournament, she took part in the qualifications of the WTA tournament in Bad Gastein, losing immediately in the first round to the Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski 6-4, 4-6, 5-7. The year ended with a defeat in the final at the ITF tournament in Minsk against the Croatian Ana Vrljic 6-3, 4-6, 6(7)-7.

2015 marks the tennis player's entry into the WTA Tour; in fact, after losing in the final at both the Prerov and Braunschweig tournaments, in November she takes part in the WTA 125K Series tournament in Limoges, where she loses in the first round against the French Caroline Garcia 6-1, 2-6, 5 -7.

Alexandrova opens 2020 in Shenzhen, where she is credited with the number 5 seed. Here she manages to seize the second International final of her career, after that of Linz in 2018. In the tournament, she beats Siniakova with a double 6-4, eliminates Shuai Peng by 7-6(7) 6-1, Qiang Wang comeback in the quarterfinals (3-6 6-4 6-3) and prevails over Muguruza in the semifinal by 6-4 6-3. In the last act she faces Elena Rybakina: the Russian manages to win in two sets (6-2 6-4) and conquer the first International title of her career. Thanks to this success, she enters the top 30 for the first time in her career, at number 28.

Aleksandrova begins 2022 with a defeat on her debut in Adelaide against Leylah Fernandez (3-6 4-6). In Sydney she gets her first success of the year against qualifier Shibahara (6-4 6-4) only to lose to world No. 3 Muguruza (1-6 6 (4) -7). At the Australian Open, she was immediately eliminated by Bernarda Pera, with a score of 5-7 3-6. In St. Petersburg she lost in the second round to Sakkari (2-6 4-6) while in Indian Wells she lost to Halep again in the second round (2-6 6-4 2-6). In Miami she beats Paolini (6-1 6-2) before losing to Azaranka in the tie-break of the third set. In Charleston she kicks off the clay court season: ousting Kiick (6-1 6-1), Zheng (2-6 7-5 5-2 and retirement) and world No. 7 Karolína Pliskova 6-3 6 -1, she reaches the first quarterfinal of the season.

Under the circumstance, she leaves the crumbs to Magda Linette (6-0 6-2), advancing to her 10th career WTA semifinal. In the penultimate act, the Russian gives way to Belinda Bencic, who will then win the title.

After a second round in Stuttgart (where she surrenders to the top-ten Kontaveit), she participates in the 1000 in Madrid, where she is forced to participate in the qualifiers: she passes thanks to the successes over Korpatsch (double 6-4) and Burel ( double 6-1); in the main draw, she eliminated the No. 10 seed Ostapenko (6-2 4-6 6-4) and the Spanish Párrizas Díaz (6-4 7-5) while in the round of 16 she came back a set behind Marie Bouzková (6( 4)-7 6-0 7-5).

In the quarterfinals, she beat Amanda Anisimova with a score of 6-4 6-3, thus accessing her first semifinal in a tournament of this caliber. Under the circumstance, she is defeated by world No. 10 Ons Jabeur in straight sets. In January 2023 she reaches her best ranking at No. 18 in the WTA rankings.

In 2023, she reaches 18th place in the WTA ranking.
