Marriage proposal interrupts Iga Swiatek's Indian Wells practice: 'Can I come?'

World No 1 Iga Swiatek witnessed a cute scene in Indian Wells that she will never forget as one couple got engaged in the middle of the Pole's practice session. On Sunday, Swiatek was on the practice court with 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin.

Then, a guy in the stands proposed to his girlfriend. The girl said yes and the moment caught Swiatek's attention. After the proposal, Swiatek posed with the couple and asked if she could come to their wedding. “Can I come to the wedding?” Swiatek joked after taking a selfie with the newly engaged couple.

Swiatek set to defend her Indian Wells title

Last year, Swiatek won her first Indian Wells title after beating Maria Sakkari in the final. This year, Swiatek is the top favorite to repeat as Indian Wells champion. In February, Swiatek won Doha before ending as runner-up in Dubai.

Before the Sunshine Double, Swiatek urged her fans to not put unrealistic expectations on her. "Yesterday I was still in Dubai, today I'm in Warsaw, soon in Indian Wells. These last few weeks were intense, and challenging but we did a lot of good work and progress.

I enjoyed tournaments in Doha and Dubai and even though I lost the final in Dubai (huge congrats Barbora!) my level was good despite the infection and I gave it all I could at the moment. I can see that some of you have higher expectations of me but well.

I'm just human. I will keep my standards high, I will enjoy my time on tour and keep working hard. At the end of the day that is all I can control. My effort and engagement. Thank you all for the support and see you soon!" Swiatek said in a message posted on her Twitter last Monday. It remains to be seen how well can Swiatek do in the desert this year.
