Iga Swiatek: "Mikaela Shiffrin is like Djokovic, Nadal and Federer"

Iga Swiatek dominated the second round match at the BNP Paribas Open 2023 against the home player Claire Liu, with a clear score of 6-0 (in which she conceded only seven points to the American), 6-1. At the press conference, the Pole made an interesting comparison between tennis and skiing, speaking precisely of the champion Mikaela Shiffrin.

Iga said: "I think she is equivalent to any of the Big Three or to Serena Williams. Perhaps the three monsters, Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, have had a chance to compete against each other. She is dominating the sport, she is better than anyone else.

Live, when you look at it, the difference is even bigger because it's so smooth to ski. I don't know much about technique but I can see for myself that she is enormously talented. She is doing everything to optimize her potential and to ski well only mentally, physically and technically.

I really respect her, she deserves this because she is a good person too. We haven't met yet."

The Pole, once again talked about the many successes she had achieved and how to manage public fame. She explained: "I was lucky to have them a little at a time.

Certainly after the first the Roland Garros it was the moment when I had to erase everything people thought and just focus on working and developing as a player. Playing after winning in France was really difficult, I kept getting away from social media.

I go there sometimes just to like and post my stuff. I don't read anything at all, it sure helps." On the prospects in this competition: "Certainly last year the tournament showed me that I can play in any conditions and I think I can adapt to any.

Hard courts are perhaps not the hardest, the surface is slow and I like it a lot. The weather is dry and the wind can be crazy. In 2022 I remember being lucky to only play the final with the wind. It's quite complicated but on the other hand the most important thing you have to do in tennis is adapt a little better than your opponent. So I have the confidence that I can do it, I get to have a positive mindset."
