Interviewed by Nederlandse Omroep Stichting just a few hours after his match at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, the 22-year-old young Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner returned for a moment to the meaning of success at the Australian Open 2024.

"I get a little more attention, especially in Italy. When I arrived after Melbourne there were a lot of people. It was something new for me to experience. I'm having a great time and I thank everyone, on the other hand I have to train again and start from scratch. Now there is a new tournament and I hope to be able to play good tennis. I said no to many things because tennis and returning to training are the absolute priority," he said.

His first match in Rotterdam will be against a Dutch tennis player, Botic van de Zandschulp, who he also challenged in the first round in Australia.

"We play indoors now, so the circumstances are very different. I respect Botic a lot. He is a great player, the public will also support him. So I expect a nice atmosphere," said Jannik.

Jannik can aspire to a new milestone in Rotterdam

Sinner will try to think exclusively about the Rotterdam event, leaving aside the happiness of having won the first Slam title of his career in Australia. The Italian is ready to make his debut in the Dutch ATP 500 (in about two hours - ed.), more than two weeks after that magical final in Melbourne.

Sinner, from the way he is facing these days in the Netherlands, seems to have overcome the moment of celebrations and has put his feet firmly back on the ground, aware of the huge amount of work still to be done and of the fact that the season has only just begun.

The calendar put him face to face with another very important commitment. In fact, according to the numbers, in case of winning the title, Jannik would become the new ATP No.3.
