Patrick Cantlay has proven himself as a top golfer multiple times. But 2021 was a standout year for him as he clinched the PGA Tour's Player of the Year award. During that time, Cantlay felt super confident and performed at his best. He recalled a unique moment in an interview when he visited Tiger Woods at home. While touring Woods' house, they went downstairs, and Cantlay was surprised to find 11 PGA Tour Player of the Year awards owned by Woods.

"I’ll tell you a story.

I went over to Tiger’s house, I think to talk Ryder Cup after I had won Player of the Year [back in 2021], and it felt like a big deal to me at the time that I had got a Player of the Year, and they give you this little Jack Nicklaus bronze trophy."- Cantlay said, as quoted by MIRROR

To hear something like that is impressive. Many ask themselves the question; How is it even possible to win 11 awards for the best player of the year?

“So we’re walking through Tiger’s house and we’re in the basement and he’s got like, 11 of ’em lined up right next to each other all in the corner of the basement — boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom."

As we have already emphasized, Cantlay was super confident in that period, and he hoped that he could transfer his form to the years ahead of him. However, Woods, as an experienced golfer, humbled him and warned that he still has a lot of work to do. Such words were certainly important for Patrick to start observing golf from a different perspective. Woods is truly an example of a golfer who possesses great playing qualities, but what makes him even more special is his mentality.

"I go, ‘Hey, I’m catching up.  And he looked at me and he goes, ‘You got a lot of work to do.'”
