Kiki Bertens had played her di lei last game at the Roland Garros2020, before stopping due to a problem in her left foot. Upon her return, Bertens faced Jelena Ostapenko, who left her opponent only two games and gained access to the second round.
The Belarusian Victoria Azarenka reached the second round of the tournament after a convincing victory against experienced Russian champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, winning with the final score of 6-2 6-3. In the next Round Azarenka will challenge the winner of the match between Elena Rybakina and Laura Siegemund.
