Elena Rybakina was born in Moscow on June 17, 1999. During her career she has won four WTA titles, including winning her first Grand Slam title at the 2022 Wimbledon tournament, as well as having played in a second Major final at the 'Australian Open 2023.

Elena Rybakina makes her debut on the WTA Tour at the Kremlin Cup, having passed all three qualifying rounds. However, she was eliminated on her debut by the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in three sets. 2017 is also marked by the junior semifinals in the Grand Slams of the Australian Open and the Roland Garros.
The following year, in St. Petersburg, she once again passed the qualifying rounds and entered the main draw of the prestigious Russian tournament. Here she gets her first victory on the major circuit, having been able to beat the Swiss Timea Bacsinszky. In the next round, she surprisingly ousted Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, then world number seven. She surrenders, however, in the quarterfinals to Julia Görges. Later, she agrees to represent the nation of Kazakhstan for economic reasons.
She participates in the 2019 Bucharest tournament which she wins without losing even a set. In the final act she prevails over Patricia Maria Tig with a peremptory 6-2, 6-0 and, in doing so, at the age of twenty she wins the first WTA title of her career. Thanks to the excellent result obtained, she manages to perfect her best ranking by accessing for the first time among the top seventy tennis players in the world and more precisely to the 65th position.
She reaches the second final of her career and of the season in Nanchang. In the race for the title, she imposes herself on her: Ankita Raina for 6-2 4-6 6-3; Wang Xinyu for 7-6 6-2; Viktorija Golubic for 6-4 3-6 7-5 and Peng Shuai for 6-1 3-6 6-2. In the final she is clearly defeated by the fifth seed, Rebecca Peterson, who leaves her with only two games.
In 2020, she plays in the final in Hobart, meeting Tamara Zidansek, Alize Cornet, Lizette Cabrera and Heather Watson on her way. 2021 is the year of the Olympic semifinal in Tokyo. In the semifinals, she succumbs to No. 9 seed Belinda Bencic 6 (3) -7 6-3 3-6, not taking advantage of a 5-2 lead in the first set. The Kazakh thus plays the final for the bronze against the No. 6 in the world Elina Svitolina. Despite a clear first set win, Rybakina gives in to the distance, not taking advantage of a break lead in the decisive set. She ends her adventure in 4th place, which becomes Kazakhstan's best ever finish in Olympic tennis.
In 2022, she sensationally and deservedly wins Wimbledon. In the first round on the London grass-court, she knocked out ex-top 10 player Coco Vandeweghe, while in the next round, she knocked out former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, with a score of 6-4 7-6 (5 ). In the third round, the Kazakh defeated the Chinese Zheng Qinwen in two tight sets, reaching the round of 16 of the London slam for the second year in a row. Under the circumstance, Elena beats Petra Martić 7-5 6-3, hitting her second quarter in a Slam after the one in Paris 2021.
Among the last eight, Rybakina loses the first set of her tournament against Ajla Tomljanovic, but in the end she prevails comeback for 4-6 6-2 6-3, guaranteeing herself a place in her first Major semifinal, where she finds the Romanian and champion of this tournament in 2019 Halep. She defeated the latter with a score of 6-3, 6-3, thus reaching her first Grand Slam final in her career. In 2023, Elena also reaches the final at the Australian Open. Elena gives way to Aryna Sabalenka, 5th seed, with the score of 6-4 3-6 4-6. Thanks to her excellent performance, Rybakina manages to enter the top 10 in tenth position, making her the first Kazakh athlete in the history of tennis to succeed in the feat. In March she wins Indian Wells, beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final in straight sets and, one week later, she also reaches the final at the Miami Open.
Rybakina mostly plays from the baseline. Her strokes are powerful and, thanks to her height, which places her among the tallest tennis players on the circuit, she has a strong, powerful and precise serve
She possesses exceptional variety, being able to hit drop shots and backhands while still playing aggressively, and she also plays well at net. She has been praised for her intelligent shot selection, game construction and patience, which allows her not to make many unforced errors often found in the repertoire of those who favor aggressive play.
She has a high percentage of wins, 90%, in the third set of the matches she has played since 2019, thanks also to her competitive spirit and her tenacity.
Rybakina started playing tennis at the age of six. She took up sports with her older sister, initially focusing on gymnastics and ice skating. After she was told that she was too tall to turn pro in either of these sports, her father suggested that she switch to tennis instead due to her interest in the sport.
Rybakina moved from Dynamo Sports Club to Spartak Tennis Club where she had several established coaches. She trained with former top-10 player Andrey Chesnokov and former top-100 player Evgenia Kulikovskaya. One of her fitness coaches was Irina Kiseleva, a gold medalist at the modern pentathlon world championships.
Rybakina did not train individually until she was a junior, however she practiced in a group of about eight players until she was 15 and a group of four players until she was 18. She also only played tennis about two hours a day and worked out in fitness for three hours a day. Her time for tennis was limited in part because she attended a regular non-specialist high school for athletes and she needed to balance tennis with schoolwork.
Her idol is that of many, indeed, many: Roger Federer, but in the past Elena declared that she was also an admirer of Justine Henin's game, a former Belgian player who won seven Grand Slam titles between 2003 and 2007.
