Yanina Wickmayer Reaches WTA Carlsbad Final

Tennis - Top seeded Yanina Wickmayer will meet American Nicole Gibbs in the final of the WTA $125K Challenger in Carlsbad, California. Wickmayer, a former World No. 15, defeated World No. 182 Maria Sakkari 6-4 6-2 in one semi-final while fifth seeded Gibbs defeated Jennifer Brady 6-0, 6-4 in the other semi-final.

49th ranked Wickmayer needed 84 minutes to get past Sakkari. This will be her 11th final on the WTA circuit and will be the first meeting between the two players. Wickmayer will be aiming to win her fifth WTA title while Gibbs is trying to win her first career WTA tour title.
