Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer, ranked 68th in the world, has announced that she will not be part of the Belgian team that takes on Russia in the Fed Cup next month. Wickmayer said she has an injury to her wrist and also referred to scheduling problems.
"The clay court season is very important to me and I want to prepare the right way for Roland Garros. In addition, I have been suffering for a long time from a stubborn wrist injury, and I have to take some time off from rest to avoid aggravating the injury, and I know that in April and May there are many compulsory tournaments.
I have talked with the team and the federation and they understand my decision, and I am convinced that our team will be able to accomplish its mission without me." Belgium defeated Romania 3-1 in the first round of the Fed Cup World Group II and will meet Russia with the winner earning the right to move to Fed Cup World Group I.
