WTA 'S-Hertogenbosch - Mladenovic wins in three sets, Konjuh advances

The second seeded player and defending finalist Kristina Mladenovic struggled much to beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich 3/6 6/2 6/2, to advance into the quarter-finals. The French player got close to lose, as she saved four break points in the fourth game of the second set.

If Sasnovich had converted it, she would have led 6/3 3/1. Instead from that until the end of the match she won only two games, and Mladenovic started to play better and better. 'It was very tough, I think we played for more than two hours and Aliaksandra is a very great player on the grass', said Mladenovic, who hit nine aces to six double faults. 'I played her last year in Wimbledon and I lost against her – I think her game suits this surface perfectly.

It was a great challenge for me, and I’m very happy I kept fighting and was able to do the little turnaround in the middle of the second set.' She will face the Ukranian Lesia Tsurenko next. A three set win also for Ana Konjuh, who beat the home favourite player Richel Hogenkamp 4/6 6/3 6/4 after an hour and 51 minutes.

The Croatian was unconsistent, made several unforced errors including five doubles, but she managed to go through. In the quarters Konjuh will face Evgeniya Rodina, who defeated Antonia Lottner 7/5 6/3. The German player had upset World No.

6 Dominika Cibulkova on Wednesday, but today she didn't play so well and missed a good chance to go further in the tournament. Arantxa Rus kept alive Netherlands' hope, as she defeated Andrea Hlavackova 6/2 7/5. Women's Singles Round 2 matches on Thursday:
