Anastasia Potapova shares message to boyfriend after tight loss to Daniil Medvedev

Anastasia Potapova congratulated her boyfriend Alexander Shevchenko on delivering a pretty good performance against world No 3 Daniil Medvedev. Shevchenko, 22, made his Masters debut in Madrid after winning two qualifying matches to reach the main draw.

Shevchenko also won his first two main draw matches before nearly upsetting Medvedev. 96th-ranked Shevchenko was up by a set and twice had a break in the third set but Medvedev still escaped with a 4-6 6-1 7-5 win. Potapova, ranked at No 25 on the WTA rankings list, was in the stands for her boyfriend's match.

"Left all my heart, voice and soul today. So proud, keep doing your thing @shevchenkoo_17,” Potapova wrote on Instagram.

Medvedev, 27, and Shevchenko were playing against each other for the first time.

Medvedev, who is a Grand Slam champion and a former world No 1, spoke extremely highly of Shevchenko after their Madrid match as he tipped the 22-year-old to continue his rise. "He plays well, he's young so I'm sure he's going to go up the rankings, especially [if] he plays like this tournament.

I've practiced with him before so I know that he can play very good. I'm very happy that I managed to beat him. I felt like I played well second and third set, and maybe the end of the first. The thing about clay - usually it's tough for me to start matches for whatever reason.

I need a lot of time to get used to everything that's happening on the court. And the third set could be a little bit better in crucial moments - or maybe a lot better - but finally I won, so that counts also," Medvedev said after beating Shevchenko.

When the ATP rankings list gets updated after Madrid, Shevchenko will improve at least a couple of places and reach a new career-high.
