Barbora Krejcikova says she has "no nightmares" about Aryna Sabalenka after losing to the Belarusian in back-to-back tournaments. Earlier this week, Krejcikova exited the Miami Open after suffering a 6-3 6-2 loss to Sabalenka in the round-of-16.
Around two weeks earlier, Krejcikova also exited Indian Wells in the round-of-16 after Sabalenka handed her a 6-3 2-6 6-4 defeat. Through Instagram, Krejcikova answered some questions. "Do you have nightmares about Sabalenka?" one question that Krejcikova received read.
Krejcikova jokingly answered: "No, I don't. Do you?"
Sabalenka praised Krejcikova
Through the first three months of the season, Krejcikova and Sabalenka have met three times. In late February, Krejcikova recovered from a set and a break down to beat Sabalenka 0-6 7-6 (2) 6-1.
In each of their three matches in 2023, Sabalenka was the one who won the first set. But in Miami, Sabalenka was able to for the first time clinch a straight-set win over Krejcikova in 2023. After the match, Sabalenka acknowledged Krejcikova is "a tough opponent" and also added she was happy that she avoided drama this time.
"It was an amazing performance from me. I think I played really great tennis today. I'm super happy with the level, especially against a player like Barbora. They are always tough matches against her. I think in the last two matches I won the first set, and every time in the second set I would get crazy on court and talk to myself, lose it a little bit.
Today, I tried to stay focused no matter what, keep doing my thing, and focus on myself. I think because of my serve today there was a lot of pressure on her. The key today was definitely my serve because I could play with more freedom on her serve. I could play closer to the lines and just go for it," Sabalenka said after the match.
