World No 24 Qinwen Zheng has withdrawn from the upcoming WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells. Zheng, 20, was scheduled to make her second Indian Wells appearance this March. Last year, Zheng made her debut in the desert. In her first-ever Indian Wells match, Zheng defeated Vera Zvonareva in straight sets.
In the second round, Zheng was stopped by Angelique Kerber. Unfortunately, Zheng won't be making back-to-back Indian Wells appearances this year.

Zheng previously pulled out of a Dubai match
Last week, Zheng competed in Dubai, where she defeated Shuai Zhang in the first round.
After beating Zhang in the first round, Zheng gave a walkover to Liudmila Samsonova in their second-round match. Meanwhile, Zheng owns a 9-5 record in 2023. Zheng's best result of the season came in early February, when she made the Abu Dhabi semifinal before losing to Samsonova.
Following her Abu Dhabi semifinal finish, Zheng also achieved a career-high ranking of No 24 in the world. Since last year, Zheng has been on the rise and is widely considered one of the most talented and promising players in the game.
Recently, former Grand Slam mixed doubles champion Casey Dellacqua tipped Zheng to have a very bright future. "I just feel like she (Qinwen Zheng) is on her way up, absolutely. She was WTA Newcomer (of the Year) in 2022, she had a fabulous junior career, she's made a couple of WTA finals before.
But I just feel like she's on the verge of getting her first WTA title. She's a great player, her game was inspired by Li Na. She strikes the ball incredibly weI feel like she's on the verge of not only her first WTA title, but also cracking the world's Top-20.
So look out for this fabulous, young, and up-and-coming Chinese player," Dellacqua said of Zheng. Hopefully, Zheng will be able to compete at a WTA 1000 event in Miami, which starts on March 21st.
