Ons Jabeur expressed her gratitude to the construction workers who made their best effort to have the stadium in Cancun built before the start of the WTA Finals but also highlighted that having the stadium finished a day before such an event is unacceptable.
In late September, the WTA announced Cancun as the host city for the 2023 WTA Finals. When participants arrived in Cancun for the WTA Finals, the construction works on the stadium were still ongoing. Only on Saturday, Jabeur and others had a chance to hit on the stadium for the first time.
Jabeur didn't hide her frustration during her pre-tournament press conference, telling the WTA that something like this "should never happen again."

"I mean, obviously as a player, I wish that the stadium was ready a couple of days before in order to have better preparation and everything.
But, yeah, I don't want to take the effort that the construction team had done for the past six weeks, I guess. I know they did a lot of hard work. I want to thank them for that. I'm not very happy that this is the first day we hit on the stadium.
This is such a big event. We should have been able to be ready and hit on the court. Yeah, hopefully, this will never, ever, ever happen again. Like ever," Jabeur said. In Cancun, Jabeur was also asked if there was a big goal she wanted to accomplish.
Jabeur, who has already stated several times that her childhood dream is to win Wimbledon, repeated that again. Also, Jabeur added that she should have already had a Wimbledon title. "I win Wimbledon, that final. I should have won it.
I think that's easy wish (smiling)," Jabeur said. Jabeur lost to Elena Rybakina in the 2022 Wimbledon final before losing to Marketa Vondrousova in this year's final at The Championships.
