The WTA has announced the candidates who will compete at the Player Awards 2023. The tennis players nominated by the Women's Tennis Association are Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Marketa Vondrousova, Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina.
The nominations were made based on some criteria that the tennis players must meet during the season, such as titles won, record of victories and defeats. The will be announced in the coming weeks and the winner will be chosen through a vote among members of the international tennis media.

Aryna Sabalenka won the Australian Open, beating Elena Rybakina in the final and winning the first Slam of her career. In the season she was also world no.1 Coco Gauff played an exceptional summer, culminating in the extraordinary victory at the 2023 US Open.
In the final, the young North American tennis player defeated Aryna Sabalenka. Iga Swiatek is the WTA world no.1, winner of the Roland Garros and the WTA Finals. This year, the strong Pole successfully defended her title at the French Open, with 68 wins and 11 losses.
Marketa Vondrousova won Wimbledon, becoming the first unseeded player to do so in the Open Era. The victory on the lawns of the Championships was perhaps her only top moment during the entire tennis season. Jessica Pegula won the WTA 1000 in Montreal, reached the mixed doubles final of the US Open, became world No.
1 in doubles and she reached the final at the WTA Finals. Elena Rybakina won the titles at Indian Wells and the Internazionli BNL d'Italia, and she reached the final of the Australian Open, where she was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka.
