Roland Garros: Carlos Alcaraz beats Taro Daniel, the Highlights

Carlos Alcaraz gets the third round of the Roland Garros 2023, overcoming Taro Daniel with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. The Spaniard paid dearly for the only empty pass that characterized his performance, but he still staged yet another showdown on the Philippe-Chatrier field.

The initial 6-1 probably played a significant role in the first stages of the second, when Alcaraz made a bad mistake with his forehand and gave oxygen to the Japanese. Daniel gained confidence and, point by point, built a castle capable of leading him to the third set in a situation that is even difficult to imagine.

As happens with true champions, however, Alcaraz made things clear from the first 15 and in the third set he gave Daniel the second 6-1 of the day. Even in the set that sent the Soanish star to the third round, the match saw only one player on the court.

Alcaraz will face Shapovalov on Friday in what could become one of the most interesting third-round matches of the tournament. Below the highlights

Novak Djokovic's wins

Novak Djokovic wins his second round match at Roland Garros 2023, beating the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics in three sets and with the result 7-6, 6-0, 6-3.

The intentions of the world number three are clear: as it is the end of the program, close the games as soon as possible. The one in the first set is a nervous Novak Djokovic. There are many enemies for the Belgrade tennis player: the wind, the conditions of the field, the balls and no less the opponent.

Fucsovics makes little mistakes, wins long rallies, what used to be Djokovic's terrain, puts him in trouble with the back: when he changes direction, the former number one is in the vast majority of cases in trouble. All this creates a set of factors that lead the Grand Slam champion to make mistakes when he has to serve for the first set.

A speech that ends in the tiebreak: the Hungarian tennis player immediately escapes from the hands, with the surgical Serbian in closing the partial. It's another story in the second and third sets. The nervousness faded, perhaps in those minutes that divide the two partials and Djokovic shows off the best version of himself so far.
