In the fifth game, Medvedev had a break point, but Kecmanovic saved to take a 4-1 lead. Medvedev maybe didn't break back Kecmanovic in the fifth game, but he got the break back in the seventh game. As no more break points were seen in the rest of the first set, the decider had to be resolved in a tie-break.
The first set was a very tight battle all up until the tie-break, during which Medvedev didn't drop a single point. After dominating the first-set tie-break, Medvedev started the second set with a 3-0 lead. In the sixth game, Medvedev clinched his second break to open a 5-1 lead, before serving out for the match in the following game.
During the first-set tie-break, Medvedev finished off one point with a flicked backhand pass. After the point, Medvedev tried to get crowd hyped. "I'm not the kind of guy to ask [for the crowd to cheer] like this," Medvedev said with a laugh. "I made a great point, so I thought, 'This one was good, let's try to pump it up a little bit.' "
