An in-form Daniil Medvedev sailed into the Monte Carlo third round. Daniil took down Lorenzo Sonego 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 28 minutes, scoring his 30th victory of the season. Also, the Russian secured his first clay-court Masters 1000 win since Madrid 2021, hoping for a good result on his least-favorable surface.
Medvedev dominated with his first serve, dropping three points after landing it in and defending the only break point to keep the pressure on the other side. Sonego served at only 47% and plagued his chances for a better result.
He lost almost half of the points in his games and experienced three breaks from nine opportunities offered to his opponent. Medvedev fired 17 winners and 16 unforced errors, taming his strokes nicely and outplaying the rival in the shortest and more extended exchanges.
Daniil came from 30-0 down in the encounter's first game and brought it home with a forehand winner.

Medvedev squandered two game points in the third game and experienced the only break point. He saved it with a forced error and held to cement the lead and settle into a fine rhythm. Sonego survived break points in the fourth game to get his name on the scoreboard and reduced the deficit to 4-2 with a strong serve in game six.
Daniil held at love in game seven for 5-2, forcing the rival to serve to stay in the set. Lorenzo faced two set points and denied them with winners to prolong the action. The Italian placed a routine forehand wide in the ninth game and missed a chance to create break points.
Instead, Daniil seized the first set point to open a 6-3 gap in 48 minutes. The Russian produced four comfortable holds in the second set, and the Italian failed to stay in touch. Medvedev grabbed a break in the third game after Sonego's double fault and held at 15 in the next one with a service winner.
Lorenzo missed a smash in the fifth game to experience another break and find himself 4-1 behind. The Italian faced a match point on serve in game seven and saved it with a forehand down the line winner. Sonego held with a service winner to prolong the action before Medvedev emerged at the top with a hold at 15 in game eight.
