Rising American star Jenson Brooksby cruised past Australia's Jordan Thompson to reach the Dallas Open semifinal. Brooksby, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 54 in the world, destroyed Thompson 6-3 6-0 in the Dallas quarterfinal.
Brooksby claimed the first break of the match in the sixth game and saved three consecutive break points in the following game to take a 5-2 lead. Brooksby blew two set points in the eigthh game but realized his fourth set point in the following game to win the opener.
After winning the first set, Brooksby broke Thompson three times and lost no service games to get the job in straight sets. “I am really happy with how I competed today,” Brooksby said in his on-court interview, per the ATP website.
“I think I made good improvements from the match yesterday. My game felt better and I was more confident and it was a good day”.
Brooksby aims his first ATP title
Brooksby, 21, made his maiden ATP final in Newport last year.
Unfortunately for Brooksby, he was beaten by Kevin Anderson in his first ATP final but it was a good lesson and a valuable experience. “I want to win tournaments and at least I had the opportunity last year to see what it takes," Brooksby said.
“There’s no tougher feeling than losing that way for me. I think it’s key that I’ve learned well, will continue to learn and do the things that will hopefully help me win titles and get through those weeks body-wise." Brooksby plays next Marcos Giron, who edged out Taylor Fritz in three sets to reach the semifinal.
Brooksby, seeded at No. 4, hasn't dropped a set so far this week. However, it should be noted that Brooksby had a first round bye in Dallas. It remains to be seen if Brooksby can reach his second ATP final.
