Sebastian Korda declared his Shanghai Masters upset victory over Daniil Medvedev as "one of the biggest victories" of his career. On Sunday, world No 26 Korda pulled off one of the biggest upsets of this year's Shanghai Masters when he beat second-seeded Medvedev 7-6 (8 6-2 in the third round. “It’s been a very difficult year, for sure.

I had a long pause on my year for three or four months. Especially when I was playing some of the best tennis of my career so far. It was difficult, but it’s a long journey. I’m happy with the way I played today. It’s definitely one of the biggest victories for me in my career," Korda said after beating Medvedev.

Earlier this year, Korda defeated Medvedev in straight sets at the Australian Open. 10 months later, Korda again ended on the winning side against Medvedev.

"I mean, he's so quick, it's really tough to get anything past him. Especially you know on a court his big and this fluffy out here, so it gets a bit slower, but definitely one of the best points of the year for me. I don't know about anyone else, but yeah.

I'm very happy with the way I played today," Korda said.

How Korda beat Medvedev in Shanghai?

In the first set, both players firmly held on to their service as not a single break point was seen. In the first-set tie-break, Medvedev had two consecutive set points at 6-4 and also another set point at 7-6 - but he missed out on all of his three set points.

Korda also didn't convert his first set point at 8-7 but he did realize his second set point at 9-8 to win a very tight opening set. After winning the first set, Korda saved a break point in the first game of the second set before earning the first break of the match in the following game for a 2-0 lead in the set.

In the eighth game - when Medvedev was serving to stay in the match - Korda broke the Russian again to complete a two-set win.
