Borna Coric takes short injury break: I have some minor issues with my hip

Borna Coric said he was looking forward to competing at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam but decided to skip the tournament due to minor hip issues. After losing in the Montpellier quarterfinal last week, Coric was scheduled to play in Rotterdam for the first time since 2021.

In 2021, Coric made the Rotterdam semifinal before losing to Marton Fucsovics. At the time, no one knew that it would turn out to be Coric's last tournament of the 2021 season. Coric underwent a shoulder surgery after Rotterdam and didn't play again until 2022.

"I was looking forward to playing Rotterdam. It is the last tournament I played before I paused for more than a year during '21 & '22 seasons. So it kinda had a simbolic meaning to me to compete here. I am sad I had to withdraw.

I have some minor issues with my hip so I am taking a few days off to recover and be ready for the rest of the season. I will be back competing soon. Thanks for your support and love you share with me. Also happy Valentines day to all of you," Coric wrote on Instagram.

Coric's 2023 season so far

Coric kicked off his 2023 season at the inaugural United Cup, where Croatia made the Perth City final.

In the Perth City final, Croatia was beaten by Greece. Coric won his opening two matches at the United Cup, before losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas. After the United Cup, Coric lost an exhibition match to Grigor Dimitrov at the Kooyong Classic.

Then, Coric suffered a shock Australian Open first-round defeat to Jiri Lehecka. After a disappointing Australian Open result, Coric won both of his Davis Cup matches to lead Croatia past Austria in their Davis Cup qualifiers tie.

Last week, Coric made the Montpellier quarterfinal before losing to Maxime Cressy. It remains to be seen when will Coric be ready to play again.
