Felix Auger-Aliassime played a season below expectations, taking a step back compared to the last part of 2022. The Canadian had to deal with several physical problems (the most important one concerned the knee - ed.) but not he has never expressed the level shown in the final part of 2022, even when he played free of physical problems.

Tennis players like Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune seem to have now taken a step further than Auger-Aliassime. But this is a thought that the Canadian does not share.

Felix doesn't believe he has wasted time, but he strongly believes he can still compete on an equal footing with the best. "The truth is that at the beginning of the season I was world No.6 and now I occupy the 29th position in the ATP ranking.

As a tennis player I have to accept it and try to understand the reasons. It's not about finding excuses but about understanding what happened, what I can to get back to my best level. I want to go even further. During the American tour my health improved.

I started playing quality matches again, but there was neither the confidence nor the tennis level of the past. It took a few months before I found myself in a position to win like I did in Basel. I have to understand with my team how to get back to my level faster, because there will be injuries, hopefully as few as possible, in the future too.

I hope it continues to be a parenthesis in my career," he explained during an interview with Eurosport. Felix then added: "This is my challenge. I don't feel like I missed the train. I managed to do some things before Jannik Sinner, he did others before me.

He has had a very good year, especially starting from Beijing, a bit like me last year. I have always had rivals and faced adversity. I'm focused on what I have to do and I still believe I can compete with all these players."
