ATP Rotterdam quartes Highlights: Medvedev, Sinner, Dimitrov
by LORENZO CIOTTI
Grigor Dimitrov and above all Daniil Medvedev will contend for a place in the ATP Rotterdam final. Medvedev solves the challenge with Felix Auger Aliassime, number three in the seeding and reigning champion, with a rather surprising 6-4 6-4.
In parallel, the Bulgarian needs the last point in the third set and to cancel two match points from Alex de Minaur to reach the Russian. After the lesson to Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner, in Rotterdam, also beats Stan Wawrinka.
Definitely different in form and substance the match for the blue talent, who dominates the first set and who, despite a small empty pass during the second, still seals on 6-3 6-1. Sinner once again proves to be perfect under the roofs and after the seal in Montpellier he reaches at least the semifinals also in Holland.
Waiting for the winner of the Dutch derby between Brewuer and Griekspoor. The indicators of the day seem visible right from the start. With Sinner who regulates the balance from the back of the field in an extremely orderly way and who needless to say settles the decisive shoulder in the first game.
Sinner squanders a 30-0 situation during the first innings, however gets out of trouble with an ace in the center, concedes a ball for the counter break, but takes advantage of a big mistake with the Swiss tennis player's backhand response.
Stan gets two more chances to return, but once again he misses quite roughly with his backhand when setting up in the first case and doesn't find weapons good enough to enter the rally in the second. Sinner successfully tricks Wawrinka in the second ball game with a short ball and puts his head on 2-0.
Called to guard the advantage, he not only shoots up 3-1 in a practically perfect way. Wawrinka practically does not have time to make the passive acceptable, dominated by an opponent simplistically with more weapons available.
The register remains unchanged in the second half. With an incredibly foul Wawrinka who, despite having a very good percentage of first balls in the field, wins just under 20% of the points with the second ball. The Swiss tennis player, practically with his back to the wall after four games, finds the counterbreak and regroups the score up to 3-3.
Not bad for Sinner, who immediately restores the hierarchies and who hooks the decisive break on 4-3. Despite a 0-30 to recover near the finish line. Tallon Griekspoor finally defeated his countryman Gijs Brouwer in straight sets with a double 6-4.
