Jan-Lennard Struff reacts to losing to Daniil Medvedev at Davis Cup Finals

Jan-Lennard Struff thought he played two bad games in the match against Daniil Medvedev and the Russian made him pay the ultimate price. No break points were seen until the ninth game of the first set, when realized his third break point to take a 5-4 lead before serving out for the opener in the following game.

Medvedev claimed his second break of the match in the fifth game of the second set before serving out for a 6-4 6-4 win. "I started playing very well, serving very well, a good level. At 4-4 I played bad, I made some errors and made him more comfortable.

In general I played well but there were two details, two games in which I didn't play well and he took his opportunity," Struff said, as revealed by Punto de Break.

Struff hoping for a good 2022

Struff, 31, failed to win his maiden ATP title in 2021 but he finished runner-up in Munich and also made the semifinal in St.

Petersburg. "It was a somewhat strange year. I had some good results but I also played bad tennis during streaks. I am convinced that I can play good tennis next year. If I fix some mistakes, I can to be dangerous again in 2022," Struff added.

After beating Struff, Medvedev pulled off a Cristiano Ronaldo celebration but he got booed by the Madrid crowd. “After the match, if I celebrate I like to do something fun," said Medvedev. “In our team, especially, what is funny is [that a] Spanish coach doesn't know a lot of Russian words, [the] coach of Karen [Khachanov].

[But] he knows how to say ‘calm down’. “When we play cards or play tennis or football or anything, when somebody wins, he's like, ‘Calm down, calm down’. When Cristiano [Ronaldo] played in Madrid, he was doing this celebration a lot of times. That's why I decided to do it. I felt it was fun”.
