World no. 18 Alex de Minaur is through into his first Masters 1000 final in Toronto! The Aussie took down Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-1, 6-3 in an hour and 17 minutes for his career-best result, never playing in a Masters 1000 quarter-final prior to this week!
The Spaniard played well to book a spot in his second Masters 1000 semi-final. However, he played miles below that level on Saturday, spraying almost 40 unforced errors and propelling his opponent into the title clash. Alex fired 13 service winners and stayed on nine direct points and mistakes, building his advantage on his opponent's erratic strokes.
It was a match to forget, with ten breaks of serve and poor percentages for both players. The Aussie gave away 45% of the points in his games and lost serve three times from nine chances offered to the Spaniard.
