World no. 18 Alex de Minaur is through into his first Masters 1000 final in Toronto! The Aussie took down Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-1, 6-3 in an hour and 17 minutes for his career-best result, never playing in a Masters 1000 quarter-final prior to this week!

The Spaniard played well to book a spot in his second Masters 1000 semi-final. However, he played miles below that level on Saturday, spraying almost 40 unforced errors and propelling his opponent into the title clash. Alex fired 13 service winners and stayed on nine direct points and mistakes, building his advantage on his opponent's erratic strokes.

It was a match to forget, with ten breaks of serve and poor percentages for both players. The Aussie gave away 45% of the points in his games and lost serve three times from nine chances offered to the Spaniard.

Alex de Minaur dropped four games against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in Toronto.

On the other hand, Davidovich Fokina held once, allowing his rival to take 65% of the points and score seven breaks, enough to sail over the top.

Alejandro missed a game point in the encounter's second game and lost serve after a loose forehand. Alex held at 15 with a service winner in game three to forge a 3-0 advantage after 12 minutes. The Spaniard cracked a forehand winner in the fourth game holding at love and delivering his only successful service game!

De Minaur saved two break points in the fifth game and brought it home to open a 4-1 gap after a powerful serve. Moving closer to his 20th unforced error, Davidovich Fokina played a loose forehand in the sixth game to suffer another break and fall 5-1 behind.

The Aussie landed an ace in the seventh game for 6-1 in 30 minutes, dominating and hoping for more in set number two. The second set offered eight breaks of serve, seven in a row! The Spaniard stole the rival's serve three times, but it gave him nothing after giving his serve away five consecutive times!

Alex broke in the first game and fended off two break points in the second to move 6-1, 2-0 in front. They could not hold serve in the next seven games, exchanging breaks back and forth. Davidovich Fokina reduced the deficit to 5-3 before experiencing his sixth poor service game in a row in the next one to propel de Minaur over the top.
