World No 12 Cameron Norrie said he was "in a state of shock" after a shock loss to Gregoire Barrere but refused to blame an injury for his defeat. Norrie, seeded at No 11, suffered a surprise Miami Masters second-round defeat as 65th-ranked Barrere ousted the Briton 6-3 6-2.
Norrie, who had a first-round bye in Miami, came to Miami thinking he would make a deep run. “I’m in a bit of a state of shock. I had prepared well and was expecting a good run here. I’ve got to put this behind me quickly," Norrie said, per Tennis365.
After the loss to Barrere, Norrie refused to blame an ankle injury for his defeat. “I jammed it at 4-1 in the second but I had been feeling fine, it wasn’t a factor,” Norrie said.
Norrie, Andy Murray & Dan Evans all out of Miami
With the Norrie loss, Great Britain was left without any players in the Miami Previously, Andy Murray was beaten by Dusan Lajovic in the first round, while Dan Evans had a first-round bye before losing to Lorenzo Sonego.
Overall, it wasn't a great Miami for British men. Murray, who had some notable runs prior to coming to Miami, was left disappointed after suffering a 6-4 7-5 first-round defeat to Lajovic. “I served pretty well, but the rest of the game was a bit of a problem today.
Didn't really return that well, made a number of errors that obviously I wouldn't expect to be making. I didn't really feel like I moved particularly well, which is really important for me, something I've been doing very well actually in most of the matches this year.
So that was probably the thing. Some days you obviously don't hit the ball your best, but my movement wasn't great today," Murray said after exiting Miami early.
