ATP s-Hertogenbosch: Jannik Sinner eases past Alexander Bublik

Jannik Sinner experienced an early Roland Garros loss to Daniel Altmaier after squandering his chances. The Italian asked for a wild card in s-Hertogenbosch and entered the draw as the second seed. Jannik faced Alexander Bublik in the second round and scored a 6-4, 6-2 victory in an hour and 23 minutes.

The Italian dropped 12 points in nine service games, defending the only break chance and keeping the pressure on the other side. Bublik fought well in the opening set but could not follow the rival's pace. The Kazakh dropped 45% of the points behind the initial shot, offering his rival 12 break chances and losing serve three times to push the Italian over the top.

Sinner created a break chance in the encounter's first game with a backhand winner. Bublik denied it with a service winner and saved the second after Sinner's backhand error to avoid an early setback. Jannik trailed 30-0 in the second game before firing up his strokes to bring it home and lock the result at 1-1 with an ace.

Alexander saved a break point in game three with a booming serve and held after deuces for 2-1. Jannik closed the fourth game at love with a forehand crosscourt winner at the net and leveled the score at 3-3 with a service winner.

Sinner played well on the return in the seventh game and earned three break chances. Bublik saved them to reach deuce before facing the fourth after a double fault. Jannik clinched it after the rival's backhand mistake to open a 4-3 gap.

Sinner cemented the break with a hold at love in game eight after a backhand winner at the net and served for the opener at 5-4. Suddenly, Alexander forced Jannik's error and created his first and only break chance. Sinner saved it with a service winner and landed an ace on a set point for 6-4 in 45 minutes.

Jannik leveled the score at 1-1 in the second set with an ace and pushed strong on the return in the next one. The 2nd seed created three break chances and seized the last after Bublik's forehand error to move a set and a break up.

Sinner held at 15 for 3-1 and produced two break chances in the next one. Jannik converted the second with a backhand return winner after Alexander's underarm serve that pushed him closer to the finish line. Sinner served for the triumph at 5-2 and held at 30 to emerge at the top and move into the quarter-final.
