World no. 11 and the Roland Garros quarter-finalist Karen Khachanov will not compete at the upcoming Wimbledon. Thus, Khachanov is the second notable player who is missing Wimbledon after Rafael Nadal. Karen experienced a stress fracture and a partial fracture in his sacrum S1 bone and will have to take a break until August, hoping to return during the North American hard-court swing.
Thus, Karen will not compete at the All England Club for the second straight year, hoping to return stronger in 2024. Khachanov has had a great run at Majors this year, competing in the Australian Open semi-final and losing to Novak Djokovic in four sets at Roland Garros.
Also, Karen shared the great news with his fans, as his wife Veronika and he expect their second son soon. Karen is 11-4 at Wimbledon, failing to qualify in 2015 and 2016 and debuting in 2017. Khachanov defeated two rivals to reach the third round before losing to Rafael Nadal following a solid performance in sets two and three.
A year later, the Russian beat Frances Tiafoe, Marcos Baghdatis and David Ferrer to advance into the fourth round and set the clash against Novak Djokovic. Novak beat Karen in straight sets, and the Russian bounced back two years later when he reached the quarter-final.
Khachanov battled against Denis Shapovalov and experienced a five-setter loss in three and a half hours.
Karen Khachanov will not compete at this year's Wimbledon due to an injury.
"Hello, everyone. This is not an easy statement for me to write, but I must inform you of my withdrawal from the upcoming Championships at Wimbledon.
Due to an unfortunate injury I picked up at the French Open(stress fracture and a partial fracture in sacrum S1 bone), I will not be able to participate at Wimbledon for the second year in a row. The decision to withdraw was not easy, and I was hoping until the end during these few weeks that I would be able to recover.
However, my medical team assured me that, in my case, it was not possible. As difficult as this is, I will focus on my recovery, working diligently to get healthy and come back to tournaments in August. Meanwhile, I am happy that I have my family by my side and grateful that I can be present for the birth of my second son, whom we expect very soon.
I remain committed and will use this setback as motivation to return and hopefully keep achieving as I wish. Thank you for your understanding and continued support; it means a lot to me. Big hugs! " Karen Khachanov wrote.
