Holger Rune kicked off the 2024 season with two high-profile coaches in his box, as Boris Becker and Severin Luthi joined Kenneth Carlsen. After only 40 days, Rune and Luthi parted ways after the Swiss failed to commit himself more seriously and follow the young gun's schedule.

Holger's mother Aneke revealed the news, announcing Becker and Carlsen as his only coaches ahead of Montpellier. Becker did not travel to Australia, and Rune worked with Luthi, who spent 15 years in the coaching box of Roger Federer.

The Dane expressed his delight to have Federer's former coach in his box after the first-round Melbourne triumph, acknowledging the Swiss as his childhood idol.

Holger Rune and Severin Luthi worked together for only 40 days.

Now, Holger will continue his tennis journey without Luthi, relying on Becker and Carlsen, who will work on his development and stability after oscillations in the Dane's game.

Rune had another high-profile name in his team up to last year, working with Patrick Mouratoglou until an early US Open exit. After a short stint with Lars Christensen, Rune's team brought Becker and Luthi. Aneke explained she expect a lot from Becker and Carlsen, with the letter knowing his game since junior days.

Boris is well-known for his three-year role with Novak Djokovic, leading the Serb toward many notable titles. The Dane started the season in Brisbane, reaching the final and settling with the runner-up prize after falling to Grigor Dimitrov in a tight duel.

World no. 8 could not his Australian Open loss after a 7-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 loss to world no. 122 Arthur Cazaux. Holger felt the pain in his knee and played below his best against an inspired rival, who performed like having a dozen of notable matches in his legs.

Cazaux fired 18 aces and 50 winners with 30 unforced errors, attacking and keeping the points on his racquet. Holger produced a decent level, losing serve three times and ending on the losing side despite taking the third set.

Eager to chase victories, Rune reacted quickly and asked for a wild card at the ATP 250 event in Montpellier, competing there for the second straight year. Rune debuted in Montpellier a year ago, reaching the semi-final and falling to Maxime Cressy after a massive battle in three tight sets.

The young Dane will kick off this year's action in the second round, facing world no. 156 Pablo Llamas Ruiz and hoping for a fine display.
