Nick Kyrgios: 'Incredible potential' Holger Rune could win multiple Grand Slams

Nick Kyrgios believes Holger Rune has the potential to win multiple Grand Slams and also revealed he would like to team up with the Dane for a doubles event. At the age of 19, Rune is already a Masters champion and is currently enjoying a career-high ranking of No 9 in the world.

Rune is someone who looks fearless on the court and Kyrgios believes the Dane could do major things in the future. "Holger's potential is incredible, and it is big enough to win several grand slams during his career. It could be big for the sport of tennis," Kyrgios told BT.

Kyrgios is focused on singles but he occasionally plays doubles. Now, Kyrgios reveals he would definitely be open to one day sharing the same side of the court with Rune. "Whenever Holger wants, I'm ready. Maybe even later this year in a smaller tournament.

I'm sure we would love to play together. We could be a pretty cool doubles pair. So let's see. Maybe I'll ask him," Kyrgios said.

Kyrgios targets to play next month

In the offseason, Kyrgios contracted a knee surgery that later forced him to withdraw from the United Cup and Adelaide 2.

Just three days before the start of the Australian Open, Kyrgios played an exhibition match against Novak Djokovic at Melbourne Park. Kyrgios won the exhibition match against Djokovic but it was clear to him that his knee wasn't where it needed to be going into a Grand Slam.

Then, Kyrgios had to make a heartbreaking decision and also pull out of the Australian Open. Shortly after announcing his Australian Open withdrawal, Kyrgios underwent a knee surgery. Most importantly, the surgery went great for Kyrgios and the 2022 Wimbledon finalist is hoping to be able to play at the Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami. The Indian Wells Masters is kicking off on March 8th and it remains to be seen if Kyrgios will play in the desert.
