Holger Rune: "The Olympic medal is my big goal"

Holger Rune wants to win everything, like any player preparing for the professional circuit, but he has one goal that is particularly dear to him: the Olympic medal. A success that is not within everyone's reach, see Novak Djokovic who has won everything except the coveted gold medal at the Olympic Games.

The possibility for the winner of the Masters 1000 to obtain one of his career dreams is not far off: the next Olympics are in 2024, in Paris, on the red clay of the Philippe Chartier. Speaking to the microphones of Tennis Weekly Podcast, the number nine in the world spoke about this his dream: "It's a big goal of mine.

I'm super excited about this. It will be next year, 2024 in Paris. I always play great in Paris and I'm excited about it. It's a big event. As a child, I dreamed of it too, so it will soon become a reality."

The Paris Olympics will be played on clay and for Rune this is not a problem, as he already said when he spoke about his favorite surfaces: "I think hard and clay are my best surfaces.

I have yet to get experience on grass but I feel that my game, the aggressive style of play that I have is good for grass and I move well. I just need to practice more and get used to it. And I think I can be as good as I am on hard and clay." Holger Rune could be the second Dane to land in the Olympic tennis competition.

However, 2024 is still far away, first we need to complete 2023. The desire to win the Australian Open has not arrived, due to the defeat against Andrey Rublev in the round of 16, but there is another goal that can still be achieved: to become number one in the world.

"This is what leads me to believe that it is possible to be number one in the world at the end of 2023. This will be my true intent for this year," he said in the press conference preceding the Australian Open.
