ATP Geneva: Nicolas Jarry downs Grigor Dimitrov and wins third ATP title

The 27-year-old Nicolas Jarry is finally showing his full potential! The Chilean claimed his second ATP title of the season in Geneva after beating Grigor Dimitrov 7-6, 6-1 in the final. Jarry reached the title clash after notable wins over Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev.

He won a tight opener against Dimitrov and dominated set number two to emerge at the top in an hour and 37 minutes and celebrate his third ATP crown. Nicolas will become world no. 35 on Monday, achieving a career-best ranking and hoping for another good run at Roland Garros.

Jarry made the difference with his booming first serve, winning 34 out of 38 points and defending three out of four break points. The Chilean created four break points and grabbed three breaks to control the pace and seal the deal in straight sets.

It was Grigor's first ATP final since Rotterdam 2018. He gave his best in the opener before losing ground in the second to settle for the runner-up prize.

Nicolas faced two break points in the encounter's second game and denied them with service winners.

The Chilean cracked a backhand down the line winner in the third game to secure a break and open a 2-1 advantage. Jarry served well in games four and six to move 4-2 in front and settle into a fine rhythm. He squandered a game point at 4-3 and got broken after a double fault to bring Dimitrov back to 4-4.

Both players served well in the remaining four games to introduce a tie break. Grigor sprayed two errors on his serve at 1-2, and Nicolas landed an ace down the T line for 6-1 and five set points. Jarry forced the rival's error on the first to wrap up the opener in style and gather a boost ahead of set number two.

Grigor squandered a 40-15 lead in the second set's second game to suffer a break and fall further behind. Nicolas cemented the break with a hold at love in game three and pushed strong on the return in the next one. The Bulgarian sprayed an error at the net to experience another break and fall 4-0 behind.

Jarry defended his backhand nicely in the fifth game and drew the rival's mistake to move 5-0 up and force Dimitrov to serve to stay in the match. Grigor held at love to avoid a bagel, and Nicolas served for the title at 5-1. The giant server produced a hold at love to emerge at the top and celebrate his third ATP title.
