Wimbledon: Carlos Alcaraz follows Novak Djokovic into R4

World no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz had to work hard to join Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon fourth round. Carlos faced Nicolas Jarry on Centre Court and prevailed 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 in three hours and 56 minutes to remain on the title course and extend his best Wimbledon run.

Jarry gave his best to stay in touch with the world's best player, squandering a 4-1 advantage in the fourth set and missing a chance to force a decider. Carlos played better behind the first and second serve, facing seven break points and losing serve two times.

The Spaniard seized five out of 14 opportunities on the return to forge the advantage and emerge at the top after a marathon. Alcaraz fired 41 winners and 30 unforced errors, taming his strokes nicely and hoping for more in the next round.

Carlos held after deuces in the encounter's first game and moved 4-3 up with a fine hold. The young gun grabbed a break in the eighth game after the rival's slice error and served for the set at 5-3.

The Spaniard denied it with a well-constructed attack and a backhand winner and wrapped up the set on the third set point for 6-3 in 44 minutes. Jarry produced two holds at love at the start of the second set and grabbed a break in the second game to forge a 3-0 advantage.

Carlos saved a break point in game four to avoid an even bigger deficit and squandered his chances in the next one. Jarry missed game points at 4-2 and lost serve after a wild forehand to bring Carlos back to the positive side.

Both players served well in the rest of the set and introduced a tie break. Alcaraz wasted a set point at 6-5 and hit a loose shot at 6-7 to hand the set to his opponent. The Spaniard started all over in the third set and produced five comfortable holds.

Carlos broke at 15 in the fourth game to forge a 3-1 advantage and delivered two comfortable holds for 5-2. The Chilean saved a set point in the eighth game to prolong the action before the Spaniard wrapped up the set with a service winner a few minutes later for two sets to one lead.

Nicolas broke in the fourth set's second game and saved break points in the next one to open a 3-0 gap. Carlos survived the fourth game and two break points to remain within one break deficit. Alcaraz broke back in the seventh game after Jarry's forehand error and held at 15 in the next one for 4-4.

The Spaniard clinched the tenth game after deuce and cracked a backhand down the line return winner in the next one for a crucial break and a 6-5 advantage. Alcaraz served for the victory in the 12th game and faced a break point. World no. 1 denied it with a booming serve and sealed the deal with another to advance into the last 16.
