Texas Christian University certain of a spot at the Indoor National Championships

Texas Christian University sure of a spot at the Indoor National Championships! TCU beat Texas Tech 4-0 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend, to secure a spot, February 17-20 in Chicago. Sunday's victory marked the program's 20th all-time finish at the grand finale of collegiate indoor tennis.

TCU has now won 11 straight ITA kickoff weekend games, all played inside the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. As reported by the TCU website, doubles team Sander Jong and Lui Maxted, notched a 6-2 win, but the Red Raiders (2-3) responded with a 6-3 win in the third flight.

The third-court loss marked the first set of doubles the Horned Frogs have lost in 2023.

The double point in turn boiled down to action on court two, where Luc Fomba's All-American duo found themselves in a 5-5 stalemate.

Fomba and Fearnley, however, lived up to their No. 1 ITA ranking. Texas Tech offered little resistance from there, as Fearnley, Jong and Fomba swept the fields 1-3 in single games to punch TCU's ticket to Windy City. The Horned Frogs have won nine out of 10 completed single sets.

Head coach David Roditi: "I thought we played really well at the front of the lineup.

Texas Tech: We know each other really well. They were pulling off a good win yesterday. We knew we were going to get their best shot. Our guys did a great job in the to manage it. Winning one and two in doubles, and then winning one and three in singles, is a good sign that the best in our lineup are doing well.

We had great fan support again today and I want to thank everyone those who came out and our TCU athletic support staff who worked tirelessly to make ITA Kickoff Weekend possible. Now we have the chance to defend our National Indoor Title, in Chicago, a venue where we have been very successful and a city where we have many friends and alumni.

Go Frogs."
