Alex De Minaur's 2024 seems to have started in the right way. Recently Pat Cash and Todd Woodbridge said they see him ready to reach the final stages of the Australian Open. Precisely in this regard, De Minaur responded to his two former tennis countrymen, also revealing what his real goals are for the Major which will start in a few hours in Melbourne.

"It is a great compliment that some of the great Australian players see the improvements I have had to be able to compete and move forward in these types of tournaments. My goal has long been to get as far as possible in Grand Slams and major tournaments, so why not the Australian Open," he told to The Age.

It is probably the first time that Alex has so much consideration from his people and from the experts. Entering the Top 10 has certainly made him responsible, but his focus is always the same, continually working to improve.

In the last five days, the Australian tennis player has managed to beat four top-10 players in a row: Taylor Fritz, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and lastly Carlos Alcaraz.

De Minaur beat the former number one in the charity match included in the Australian Open Opening Week presented by Herald Sun.

Now the time has come for him to blossom and make the definitive leap in quality. The 24-year-old's best result in the Australian Slam is a fourth round. "It's no secret that it's my first time in this position, with so much excitement, but at the same time not much has changed for me.

There are more eyes on me, but in terms of work, preparation, what I do as a player, nothing changes. Reaching the top 10 is a very important achievement for my career, but it doesn't end there, there is still a lot to do. I want to continue to strive every day to improve and I am very motivated about what this tour can bring me," he concluded.

De Minaur will make his debut at Melbourne Park against a difficult opponent, the former world number three Milos Raonic.
