Nick Kyrgios was unable to attend the Australian Open 2024 but is commentating on the first Major of the season for Eurosport. In recent days, many rumors have emerged about the future of the Australian tennis player, many of which concerned his imminent retirement from tennis.

There are several questions regarding Kyrgios, who experienced an incredible 2022 culminating with the Wimbledon final lost against Novak Djokovic and winning the doubles tournament at the Nitto ATP Finals held at the Pala AlpiTour in Turin together with his friend Thanasi Kokkinakis, with the who also won the doubles at the Australian Open.

Kyrgios, before the 2023 edition of the Australian Major, announced knee surgery, underlining how he would then return to the grass season in the ATP 250 tournament in Stuttgart, where he was eliminated in the first round against the Chinese Yibing Wu. The Australian tennis player had intended to focus his attention on defending the Wimbledon final won 12 months earlier.

In training on the lawns of the All England club, Nick suffered a wrist injury which prevented him from participating in any Tour tournaments for the rest of last season and now has no points in the rankings.

In the meantime, as I wrote at the beginning of the article, Kyrgios is enjoying being a commentator for Eurosport, giving technical opinions and interviewing several tennis players at the end of the match, including his friend and 24 Slam winner Novak Djokovi, the ATP No.2 Carlos Alcaraz and the young US star Coco Gauff.

However, fans and professionals are wondering about the date of Nick's come back to the court and whether this will actually happen, or whether he will think about retiring from sports competitions. The Australian tennis player himself decided to respond to the question by posting a story with a specific description via his Instagram account.

"I'm hungrier than ever, I'm constantly rehabbing in the gym. I'll be back, stay tuned," Kyrgios wrote, giving fans an appointment in the next few months for his planned return on the ATP Tour.

Kyrgios expressed his opinion on the GOAT issue and about Djokovic

Kyrgios has expressed his thoughts on Serbian legend Novak Djokovic several times and, during his commentary, he underlined that the Serbian is a tennis player without defects.

"His forehand is very solid and then with his backhand he manages to hit every shot, perhaps the best backhand you've ever seen on a tennis court. Then his serve is also solid and he is the best returner of all time. His net play hasn't always been lethal, but it's been good enough. He is also one of the players with the best mobility," underlined Kyrgios.

The 2022 Wimbledon finalist continued by expressing himself on the GOAT issue.

"Novak is definitely the best of all time. Roger Federer is the most beautiful thing to watch, he is the most talented, he makes the game look easy, he is like the Michael Jordan of tennis. Without Roger there would never have been a Novak or a Nadal, someone to try to capture in the statistics.

He is the most complete player, even on all surfaces, because Nadal is dominant on one surface, while Novak is dominant and has been on all. I think the simple ability to put the ball wherever you want is very underrated. That's something I felt playing with him, because he could change direction with every shot he hit," he told.

Going unbalanced in terms of the tennis future, Kyrgios predicted Djokovic's dominance especially in the Slam arena.

"I think he wins at least three or four more Grand Slam tournaments. I suppose there will also be a couple more ATP 500s and Masters 1000s. Sinner beat him a couple of times in the Davis Cup and then in the ATP Finals, but until he starts to lose consecutive Slams with a couple of bad defeats for me he always comes into tournaments as the favorite.

I think Margaret Court's record is in the back of his mind. He wants to be the most awarded of all time, in fact for him the gold medal is also important. That's the crazy thing about tennis, every time you step on the court you try to improve something and I think he just likes it, he likes the process.

It's him and that's why we admire them so much and that's why I have so much respect for the big three and for Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka, who are so old and continue to compete and try to get better, which is a source of inspiration. They are obsessed," analyzed Nick.
